The American Red Cross engages over 169,000 youth annually in the following areas: education, training, volunteer and community service. Southeastern Michigan Chapter ensures that we are doing our part by offering unique and exciting opportunities to get youth involved throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
Youth are concerned about their communities and the world in which they live in, but they often feel that they cannot affect change. The purpose of the American Red Cross of Southeastern Michigan youth program is to:
- Train youth to become lifelong advocates of volunteerism as a quintessential part of a balanced life.
- Create positive change within their communities and the world in which they live.
- Expose youth to the mission and the fundamental principles of the American Red Cross.
- Enable youth to learn valuable skills such as time management, leadership and civic engagement while assisting us in our mission.
Why youth should volunteer:
- Statistics show that volunteering helps to improve school performance.
- Youth develop a sense of belonging in their school and community.
- Through volunteering youth gain leadership skills, personal growth and a sense of fulfillment.
- Youth who volunteer become lifelong volunteers, continually making a difference in the world.
